Cricket West Indies (CWI) has made a significant stride in bolstering its cricket development initiatives by appointing Ramesh Subasinghe as the new Head Coach for the West Indies (WI) Men’s Academy.

This appointment marks a pivotal moment in CWI’s commitment to nurturing talent and advancing excellence in cricket across the region.

Prior to joining CWI, Subasinghe, a former Sri Lankan first-class cricketer, served as the Head Coach of the New Zealand Cricket Men’s Development Programme and held roles with the Otago Cricket Association. Armed with an ICC Global Level 3 coaching qualification and extensive experience in high-performance coaching, Subasinghe brings a wealth of expertise to his new role.

The recruitment process for the Head Coach position attracted significant global interest, with 53 applicants vying for the role. After a meticulous selection process, Subasinghe emerged as the ideal candidate from a pool of 12 shortlisted candidates representing diverse cricketing backgrounds.

Exceptional qualifications and leadership qualities
Enoch Lewis, CWI Board Director, along with other key stakeholders, played a crucial role in the selection process, ensuring that only the most qualified and capable candidates were considered. Miles Bascombe, Director of Cricket at CWI, expressed confidence in Subasinghe’s appointment, highlighting his exceptional qualifications and leadership qualities.

In his new role, Subasinghe expressed enthusiasm about contributing to CWI’s strategic vision and building upon existing high-performance programs. He emphasized the opportunity to work with the region’s best young cricketers and collaborate with the passionate cricketing communities in the West Indies.

Subasinghe’s appointment signifies CWI’s commitment to investing in the future of West Indian cricket. With his technical knowledge, strategic insight, and dedication to player development, Subasinghe is poised to play a vital role in shaping the next generation of cricketing talent in the region.

Commencing his role on May 1, 2024, Ramesh Subasinghe will be based full-time at the CWI Headquarters at Coolidge Cricket Ground in Antigua, ready to embark on this new chapter in his coaching career.
