Registration of Athletics, Table Tennis and Gymnastic associations suspended

A gazette extraordinary has been issued temporarily suspending the registration of Athletics, Table Tennis and Gymnastic associations by Minister of Youth Affairs and Sports Sunil Kumara Gamage.
Accordingly, the three sports bodies have been placed under the purview of the Secretary to the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports who will function as the competent authority, with effect from August 25.
The gazette notification states, the suspension will be in place until the completion of the process of amending the respective constitutions in conformity with the provisions of the Sports Law No. 25 of 1973, as well as completing the process of conducting elections for the appointment of new Office bearers.
