2025 Asia Rugby Sevens Series: Sri Lanka defeats Uzbekistan 26-14

Sri Lanka kick-started the final leg of the Asia Rugby Sevens Series 2025 with an impressive 26-14 win over Uzbekistan in a Pool C encounter at the Racecourse International Stadium in Colombo.
The Uzbek side opened the scoring in the 50th second of the game to silence the home crowd at the Racecourse Stadium. Visitors converted the try to lead 00-07.
During the injury time of the opening half, experienced Srinath Sooriyabandara scored a try under the post which he converted to level the scores.
At lemons, both teams shared the spoils with 07-07.
The Tuskers scored back-to-back tries at the start of the second half to take a healthy 21-07 lead.
In the fifth minute of the game, the Uzbeks scored a try under the post to reduce the lead to 21-14.
However, Sri Lanka finished the game in style with a 35-meter try.
The second tries were scored by Gayan Perera, Chathura Soysa and Janindu Dilshan and the scoreline read 26-14 at the long whistle.
The Lankans will next meet Singapore at 5:04 p.m.
Earlier in the Women’s segment, Sri Lanka lost to Thailand 43-00 in the opening game.
Sri Lanka did not have any answers to the speed and skill of the Thai side.
They will next meet Hong Kong in a tough assignment at 3:14 p.m.
The two-day event got underway this morning with the participation of 24 mens and womens teams.
