2025 Asia Rugby 7s Series: Sri Lanka remains unbeaten after win over Singapore

Sri Lanka led by Kavindu Perera secured a clinical 22-05 win over Singapore in a Pool C encounter to remain unbeaten on Day One of the final leg of the Asia Rugby Sevens Series 2025 at the Racecourse International Stadium in Colombo.

Sri Lanka opened the scoring in the fourth minute with a try from Srinath Sooriyabandara. However, Singapore made use of the numerical advantage to score a try and equal the score following a yellow card to Janindu Dilshan for a deliberate knock-on.

Dinal Ekanayake then planted a try behalf the half-time whistle to restore Sri Lanka’s five-point advantage.

At lemons, the Tusker led 12-05.

Immediately after the resumption, Sooriyabandara scored his second try of the game to extend the lead to 17-05.

Heshan Jansen sealed the game for the home team with a try of his own in the latter stages to help Sri Lanka remain on course to play in the Cup semi-final.
 
The Lankans will next meet China at 9:50 p.m. under floodlights.
 
Earlier, the Tuskers defeated Uzbekistan 26-14 in the opening game.

In the Women’s segment, Sri Lanka lost to Hong Kong 31-00 in the second game of the championship.

Earlier in the morning, the Lankan ladies were also defeated by Thailand 43-00.
 
The final leg of the Asia Rugby Sevens Series 2025 got underway at the Racecourse International Stadium in Colombo this morning with the participation of 24 men’s and women’s teams.
 
The play-off and knock-out round games will be worked-off from 10:00 a.m. tomorrow.
