Clinical Sri Lanka secures third spot at 2025 Asia Rugby Sevens Series Colombo Leg

Sri Lanka defeated China for the second time today by 19-14 to secure the third spot in the final of the Asia Rugby Sevens Series 2025 at the Racecourse International Stadium in Colombo.
In the third-place play-off, experienced Srinath Sooriyabandara got the game underway with a brilliant try to take the score to 07-00.
After a see-saw battle China scored its first try of the game to level the scores before the break.
At lemons, teams were level on 07-07.
Diluksha Dange scored immediately after the resumption to give Sri Lanka a 12-07 lead.
Sri Lanka sealed the game in the penultimate minute of the game with another try through Diluksha Dange.
Although, China planted a try in the final minute, Sri Lanka had done enough to secure the third spot in the championship.
The final of the tournament will be worked-off between top seeds Japan and Hong Kong shortly.
In the women’s segment, Sri Lanka finished 11th in the standing after beating Indonesia 38-10 in the play-offs. This was the only victory for Sri Lanka in the women’s segment.
The final leg of the Asia Rugby Sevens Series 2025 got underway at the Racecourse International Stadium in Colombo last morning with the participation of 24 men’s and women’s teams.
