Sri Lankan team that participated in Asian Youth Games returns

The Sri Lankan team that participated in the Asian Youth Games held in Bahrain returned to the island this morning (02).

The Sri Lankan team won one gold medal, one silver medal and five bronze medals at the tournament.

A large number of athletes representing 45 countries from the Asian region took part in the championship.

In the competition, Lahiru Achintha of the St. Aloysius National School, Ratnapura, won the gold medal in the boys’ 1,500-meter event.

The victorious team arrived at the Bandaranaike International Airport (BIA) at 8:40 a.m., onboard a private airline flight from Dubai.

Minister of Sports and Youth Affairs Sunil Kumara Gamage, Deputy Minister of Sports Sugath Thilakaratne, Gampaha District Member of Parliament Champika Hettiarachchi, members of the National Olympic Committee of Sri Lanka, teachers from the schools attended by the athletes, their parents and a large number of supporters were present at the airport to welcome the team.
