England bowlers were spot on with their line and length in the second ODI against Sri Lanka, dismissing the hosts for 219 in 49.3 overs.
However, several Sri Lankan batters got starts but failed to carry on in front of the rivals.
Captain Charith Asalanka was the top run-getter, amassing 45 runs off 64 balls, laced with just 1 boundary. His runs came at a strike rate of 70.31, which doesn’t suit the demands of modern-day cricket. Dhananjaya de Silva managed 40 runs off 59 runs, including 4 boundaries, but even he was slow.
Pavan Rathnayake (29), Pathum Nissanka (26) and Kusal Mendis (26) were unable to script impactful partnerships.
Kamil Mishara (5) and Janith Liyanage (12) were disappointing with the bat. Adil Rashid was again the pick of the bowlers for England, taking two wickets and conceding just 34 runs.
Rehan Ahmed, Will Jacks and Liam Dawson, the other three spinners, were magnificent and dismissed one batter each.
Joe Root, who is the part-time bowler, picked up two scalps as well.
