Australia bat first against Ireland in Colombo

Australia won the toss and elected to bat first against Ireland in their Group B match of the ICC T20 World Cup at RPS in Colombo on Wednesday.

Australia made a late change ahead of their opening ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026 match against Ireland.

Mitchell Marsh, who was set to lead the team, will miss the game after sustaining a direct blow to the groin during training earlier this week.

The injury has caused internal testicular bleeding, and Marsh will require rest and rehabilitation before returning to the field.

Reacting to the injury standby player Steve Smith, who last featured in T20Is in February 2024 but remains a mainstay in Australia’s Test side, has been called in to travel to Sri Lanka. Smith will acclimatize and be ready to step in if needed.

The Aussies now head into today’s clash against Ireland with an updated leadership lineup.
