Fifties from Kusal Mendis, Pavan Rathnayake and a late blitz from Dasun Shanaka helped Sri Lanka post a mammoth 225/5 in their allotted 20 overs, the highest total by a side in this year’s T20 World Cup during a Group B encounter at the Pallekele International Stadium in Kandy.
Mendis (61 off 45 balls), Shanaka (50 off 20 balls) and Ratnayake (60 off 28 balls) toyed with Oman’s bowling to lead the home side to a 200-plus total after being asked to bat first.
This is also the highest total in this edition of the T20 World Cup.
Shanaka made 50 in 19 balls and it was also the fastest by a Sri Lankan in T20Is.
For Oman, left-arm pacer Jiten Ramanandi took two wickets.
