New Zealand registered a commanding 61-run victory over Sri Lanka in their ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026 Super Eight stage Group 2 encounter at the RPS, ending Sri Lanka’s hopes of qualifying for the semifinals.

Chasing a challenging target, Sri Lanka were restricted to 107 for 8 in their allotted 20 overs. Kamindu Mendis top-scored with 31 runs, while Dunith Wellalage contributed 29, but the hosts failed to build substantial partnerships under mounting pressure.

New Zealand’s bowlers delivered a clinical performance, with Rachin Ravindra producing an impressive spell of 4 for 27. Matt Henry was devastating with the ball, claiming 3 wickets for just 2 runs, while Mitchell Santner chipped in with 1 for 19 to seal a comprehensive win.

With this defeat, Sri Lanka are officially out of contention for a place in the semifinals of the tournament.
