Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) clinched their fifth consecutive Ligue 1 title on Wednesday after defeating their closest challengers Lens 2-0 away from home, sealing yet another dominant domestic campaign under Luis Enrique.

The victory moved PSG nine points clear at the top of the table with only one match remaining, making it impossible for Lens to catch them. This title is PSG’s 14th French league crown overall, extending their record as the most successful club in Ligue 1 history.

Lens vs PSG – As It Happened

Khvicha Kvaratskhelia opened the scoring in the 29th minute after a clever interception and assist from Ousmane Dembele. The Georgian winger calmly finished from close range to register his 19th goal of the season. Substitute Ibrahim Mbaye sealed the victory in stoppage time with a composed finish on the counterattack.

Despite travelling with a depleted squad due to injuries and rotation, PSG produced enough quality to secure the result in a hostile atmosphere at the Stade Bollaert-Delelis. Goalkeeper Matvey Safonov played a key role with several important saves as Lens created multiple chances, including efforts from Abdallah Sima and Wesley Said.

“We wanted to come here and win, but we especially want to prepare for the final on May 30,” last year’s Ballon d’Or winner Dembele told broadcaster beIN Sports.

“We have one more game to come on Sunday (against Paris FC). We will celebrate this because it’s official now, we are champions.”

More History On The Line

PSG’s latest triumph adds to an already impressive season in which they have also lifted the UEFA Super Cup, FIFA Intercontinental Cup and French Champions Trophy. However, their biggest challenge still awaits as they prepare to face Arsenal in the UEFA Champions League final in Budapest later this month.

Luis Enrique’s side have impressed with their collective style of football throughout the season, combining attacking flair with defensive discipline. Players such as Dembele, Kvaratskhelia and young midfielder Warren Zaire-Emery have played vital roles in PSG’s successful campaign as the club now aims to complete another historic European triumph.
