England vs Sri Lanka: Alastair Cook wins toss and opts to bat

The England captain Alastair Cook won the toss at Lord’s on Thursday morning under clear blue skies and opted to bat against Sri Lanka on what looks to be a lovely track for run-gathering.

England lead the three-Test series 2-0 and are looking for their first series whitewash since they beat India 4-0 in 2011.

The home team named an unchanged XI from the side that beat Sri Lanka up in Durham in the second Test. In fact, they named it on Wednesday such is the confidence in the camp. The pressure is on Nick Compton, the No 3 bat, who has had a lean summer so far and needs a score to keep his place in the team for the second series of the summer against Pakistan.
