Sri Lankan wins bronze at Rio Paralympics

  Sri Lanka’s Dinesh Priyantha Herath won a bronze medal at the Rio Paralympics in the F46 Men’s Javelin throw yesterday.

Indian Javelin thrower Devendra Jhajharia won a gold medal while Chunliang Guo from China won the silver.

Dinesh became the first Sri Lankan to win a medal at the 2016 Paralympics.

Devendra, whose previous best was 62.15m (achieved in the 2004 Games), improved the mark with a throw of 63.97m at the Olympic Stadium.

China’s world champion Chunliang Guo took silver with his fifth round effort of 59.93m and Sri Lankan Herath (58.23m) clinched bronze.
