Schools Rugby League: Wesley, Zahira and Royal top points table after week 1

Wesley College Colombo, Zahira College Colombo and Royal College Colombo are topping the respective points tables after the end of week 1 of the 2025 Inter-School Rugby League tournament.  

In the Group 1A, Wesley College claimed an impressive 63-15 win over Science College Mount Lavinia in the season opener at Havelock Park. Wesley led 35-10 at lemons and went on to score nine converted tries to claim a bonus point try. 

In the same group, St. Peter’s College Bambalapitiya claimed a 38-22 victory against Ananda College Colombo at St. Peter’s College Grounds. 

St. Peter’s secured all six points on offer by scoring four goals and two tries. 

D.S. Senanayake College Colombo kick-started the new season with a narrow 26-19 win against St. Anthony’s College Kandy at the Nittawela Stadium in Kandy. 

Meanwhile in Group 2A, Zahira College Colombo defeated Dharmaraja College Kandy 56-19 in a one-sided contest at the Zahira College Grounds in Maradana. 

In the same group, Isipathana College Colombo toiled hard to beat Mahanama College Colombo 34-19 at Havelock Park.   

S. Thomas’ College, Mount Lavinia managed to beat Kingswood College Kandy 29-28 in a pulsating contest at the S. Thomas’ College Grounds in Mount Lavinia. 

Royal College Colombo thrashed Thurstan College Colombo 74-10 in a Group 3A contest at the Royal Complex. 

Trinity College Kandy also secured an impressive 49-15 win over Sri Sumangala College Kandy.

Meanwhile, Vidyartha College Kandy and St. Joseph’s College Colombo played out a 24-all draw at the Nittawela Stadium in a 2025 Inter-School Rugby League tournament encounter this week.
