President Anura Kumara Dissanayake on Wednesday (15) participated in the official state ceremony for the traditional oil-anointing ritual of the Sinhala and Tamil New Year in Kandy. The President joined the ceremony after paying homage to the Sacred Tooth Relic and receiving blessings. In line with New Year customs and auspicious timings, the traditional oil-anointing ritual of the Sinhala and Tamil New Year took place at 6:55 a.m. The state ceremony for the oil-anointing ritual was held at the Sri Maha Natha Devalaya premises within the Temple of the Sacred Tooth Relic in Kandy. The event was held under the guidance of the Chief Prelates of the Malwathu and Asgiri Chapters of the Siam Nikaya, with the participation of a large number of devotees.
