Man involved in multiple crimes including murder arrested in Kalmunai

An individual connected to a series of crimes, including murders, has been arrested by the Homicide and Organized Crime Investigation Unit of the Criminal Investigation Department (CID).

According to police, the suspect was arrested yesterday (07) in Kalmunai and was presented to the Thirukkovil Police Station.

The arrest was made as part of an investigation conducted by the Homicide and Organized Crime Investigation Unit of the CID, targeting individuals involved in crimes such as murders, abductions, enforced disappearances, use of firearms, operation of torture chambers and extortion, allegedly carried out by an armed group in the Batticaloa District in 2007 and 2008.

The arrested suspect is a 34-year-old resident of Akkaraipattu.

Further investigations will be conducted by the Homicide and Organized Crime Investigation Unit of the CID under a 72-hour detention order, police added further.
