Rajitha addresses media ahead of World Malaria Day

The Minister of Health, Rajitha Senaratne, stated that “Sri Lanka has been awarded the WHO certification for elimination of Malaria in 2016”.

Minister brought out his sentiments during a press conference marking the World Malaria Day, which will fall on the 25 of this month (April). 

He further added that although Sri Lanka, has been declared malaria free, there are still some countries around the world, where Malaria has in fact been considered an epidemic, and hence the country still faces the threat of resurgence. 

Senaratne stated that efforts have been made by the government to prevent the importation of Malaria, via affected individuals from countries where the disease is still present, and that the government’s main goals being to sustain the Malaria free status in the years to come.
