SAITM issue: medical faculty lecturers threaten action

The Association of Medical Faculty’s Lecturers (AMFL) has threatened trade union action following injustice towards the medical students of state universities whose educational activities have stalled due to their efforts to curb the issue relating to the private medical university in Malabe.

The medical faculties of the state universities in Colombo, Sri Jayewardenepura, Jaffna and Anuradhapura would take part in tread union action, AMFL Convener Dr. Manuj C. Weerasinghe said.

“Three more medical faculties will join us,” he added.

The AMFL has accordingly decided to refrain from participating in exam invigilating at the Kotelawala Defence University’s Medicine Faculty and to boycott duties related to the examination for registration to practice medicine which comes under the purview of the Medical Council of Sri Lanka (MCSL), Weerasinghe said.

The undergraduates of the state universities across the country boycott lectures in protest of the private medical university since last February, it was reported.
