SLMC dispels need to amend minimum standard for medical education

President of the Sri Lanka Medical Council Prof. Colvin Gunaratne stated that the existing minimum standards for medical education do not require any amendments following a special meeting of the SLMC today (25). 

The Sri Lanka Medical Council convened for an emergency meeting at 1.00pm today to discuss the problems related to the minimum standard for medical education. 

SLMC officials stated that discussions were held with President Maithripala Sirisena over the issue and that certain amendments need to be made. 

The Presidential Secretariat shared the report documented by the Presidential Committee on SAITM chaired by Dr.Harsha de Silva with the SLMC.  

The President of the SLMC stated that the proposals submitted by the SLMC were documented following thorough studies done on the standard for medical education within Sri Lanka. He further stated that the proposals need not be amended as they were complied following detailed research and study. 

Following the meeting the President of the SLMC declared that the existing standards need not be amended.
