Turkey assures continued support to Sri Lanka

Turkey’s new Ambassador for Sri Lanka, Demet Sekercioglu has called on the Commander of Sri Lanka Army, Lieutenant General Shavendra Silva, at the Army Headquarters yesterday (26).

Lieutenant General Silva has recalled bonds of goodwill both countries have been harbouring for generations and underlined the need to maintain the status quo.

He has further appreciated the support, facilities and cooperation that have been lent to Sri Lanka all the time by Turkey with special focus on training openings that have been offered to the Sri Lankan armed forces. He also referred to the ongoing bilateral trade exchanges between both countries and requested the envoy to continue Turkish cooperation towards Sri Lanka in future as well.

The envoy, in return, acknowledged Sri Lanka’s good relations with Turkey and also the cooperation both countries maintains at international level. She also assured her government’s continued support to the development of Sri Lanka and extended greetings to the Sri Lanka Army and its chief, Lieutenant General Shavendra Silva for the opportunity given to her.
