Six nabbed with high-tech satellite device in seas off Dondra Head

Sri Lanka Navy has apprehended 06 individuals in possession of a high-tech satellite device while sailing in the deep seas off Dondra Head.

The apprehension has been carried out during a search operation mounted by the Navy, based on a tip-off received by them.

The Police Narcotics Bureau has received permission to detain the group of arrested individuals until October 14 for further investigation activities, after being produced before Colombo Additional Magistrate Thilina Gamage on Sunday (08).

Police have informed the Additional Magistrate that the satellite device found in their possession is more advanced than the usual devices used by the fishermen and that the police are conducting further investigations into whether the suspects were transporting heroin.

The officers of the Police Narcotics Bureau, who informed the Additional Magistrate regarding the case goods including three SIM cards, further stated that the police are carrying out investigations regarding them.
