The revenue generated by the Department of Excise has increased by 38.5 percent in February this year compared to the previous year, says the Commissioner General of Excise M. J. Gunasiri.

Meanwhile, he mentioned that due to the increase in the price of alcohol, the production of alcohol has decreased by an amount of around 657,000 litres in the month of January this year compared to the same month in 2023.

Furthermore, the Excise Commissioner General said that special teams have been deployed across the island to conduct raids on illicit liquor during the upcoming festive season.
