Two brothers, sister of Hambantota youth remanded

Three family members including two brothers and a sister of the youth who escaped while in police custody in Hambantota have been remanded until 30 September.


Ada Derana reporter said that the suspects were arrested on charges of allegedly misleading police by giving false evidence with respect of the disappearance of their younger brother and harboring him.


The suspects were remanded after being produced before the Hambantota Magistrate this morning. 


The youth, G.G. Gayashan, was initially arrested by police on September 5, along with two others, over their alleged connection with the theft of 80 sacks of paddy from a storage facility in Bandagiriya. He has also been remanded until 30 September, reporter added.   


Four police officers - three Sergeants and one Constable- attached to the Hambantota Police Station were also suspended over the incident.  Several police officers attached to the Hambantota police station were transferred over the incident as well.
