The suspects were remanded after being produced before the Hambantota Magistrate this morning.

The youth, G.G. Gayashan, was initially arrested by police on September 5, along with two others, over their alleged connection with the theft of 80 sacks of paddy from a storage facility in Bandagiriya. He has also been remanded until 30 September, reporter added.

Four police officers - three Sergeants and one Constable- attached to the Hambantota Police Station were also suspended over the incident.  Several police officers attached to the Hambantota police station were transferred over the incident as well.
