The chief eyewitness of the 2012 Welikada prison shooting Sudesh Nandimal stated that the government has done nothing but idle, waiting for key witnesses capable of providing evidence of the 2012 shootings to be killed.

Speaking to the media at a press conference today (5), Sudesh Nandimal stated that he had provided his fullest support to all authoritative bodies who looked into the 2012 shooting. He also mentioned that the Minister of Justice at the time, Wijeyadasa Rajapaksa attempted to cover up the Welikada massacre in spite of there being compelling evidence against the guilty parties.

Sudesh Nandimal also stated that there were several instances where key witnesses including himself, were threatened and endangered by those involved in the shooting. He stated that there were several attempts made to assassinate him while several others were threatened.

He further stated that the government has a responsibility to protect key witnesses involved in a high profile investigation such as this. He stated however that the complacent government has shown no interest in his safety and has merely idled awaiting his impending demise.
