An individual has sustained injuries in a shooting incident reported in Kapugama, Matara at around 6:35a.m. today (03), police stated.

According to police, two unidentified individuals arrived on a motorcycle and carried out the shooting using a T-56 assault rifle, targeting a person who was at a house.

A 48-year-old man was injured in the shooting, sustaining a minor wound to his leg.

Police said the injured person is a bus owner and also a businessman who owns multiple fishing vessels.

Police suspect that the shooting was orchestrated by Shehan Sathsara, also known as ‘Dehibala Malli’, a known organized criminal and drug trafficker currently residing in Dubai.

This act is believed to be motivated by a personal connection between the injured man and the families of Pasindu Tharaka and Yomesh Nadishan, who were shot dead near the southern entrance of the Sri Vishnu Temple in Dondra on March 21, as well as with an individual injured in that same incident.

Police recovered three T-56 bullets from the scene of the shooting.

Further investigations are being carried out by the Gandara Police.
