Fairly heavy rainfall above 50 mm likely in some areas today

Showers will occur at times in the Western, Sabaragamuwa and Central provinces and in the Galle and Matara districts today (13), the Department of Meteorology said.
Several spells of showers will occur in the North-western province as well.
Fairly heavy falls above 50 mm are likely at some places in the Sabaragamuwa province and in the Nuwara-Eliya and Kandy districts, the Met. Department added.
Meanwhile, showers or thundershowers may occur at a few places in the Uva province and in the Ampara and Batticaloa districts after 2.00 p.m.
Strong winds of about 40-50kmph can be expected at times over the Western slopes of the central hills and in the Northern, North-central, North-western and Southern provinces and in the Trincomalee district, the Met. Department noted.
The general public has also been requested to take adequate precautions to minimize damages caused by temporary localized strong winds and lightning during thundershowers.
