Three dead, 3 injured in lorry-bus collision at Narammala

At least three individuals have died and three others have sustained injuries following a collision involving a lorry and a bus near Narammala town on the Narammala-Kurunegala main road, police stated.

According to police, the accident occurred earlier this morning (05).

The driver of the lorry, who was travelling from Kurunegala towards Narammala, had lost control of the vehicle causing it to veer off the right side of the road, colliding with a Sri Lanka Transport Board (SLTB) bus travelling from Katunayake to Akkaraipattu.

The lorry driver, another male, two women, and two children who were traveling in the lorry, sustained injuries and were admitted to Narammala and Kurunegala hospitals. 

The driver, the male passenger, and one woman later succumbed to their injuries.

The deceased, aged 41, 80, and 82, were residents of Polonnaruwa, police said.

A 40-year-old woman and two girls, aged 16 and 9, who were traveling in the same lorry, are still receiving treatment at Kurunegala Hospital.

The bodies have been placed at the morgues of the Narammala and Kurunegala hospitals.

The driver of the bus has been apprehended and the Narammala Police are conducting further investigations into the incident.
