The government has decided to obtain the Special Drawing Rights (SDR) fund equal to US$ 50 million from the World Bank Group to implement the Sri Lanka Digital Transformation Project.
The Digital Transformation Project, which is under the Digital Economy Strategy (2025-2030), has been prepared with the objective of providing public services efficiently and transparently through digital methods.
The Cabinet approval to obtain support from the international development partners to implement the project was granted at the cabinet meeting held in October 2025.
Accordingly, the relevant loan negotiations, which were initiated with the participation of all the stakeholders of the government and the World Bank Group, have concluded.
According to the agreements reached at these discussions, the Ministry of Finance, Planning, and Economic Development will function as the institution where the loan facility is obtained on behalf of the Sri Lankan government, while Gov Tec Sri Lanka will function as the implementing institution.
Accordingly, the Cabinet of Ministers has approved the resolution furnished by the President in his capacity as the Minister of Finance, Planning, and Economic Development to obtain the Special Drawing Rights fund equal to US$50 million from the World Bank Group for the proposed project based on the financial orders and conditions recommended by the Public Debt Management Office under the provisions of the Public Debt Management Act No. 33 of 2024.
