The Department of Agrarian Development has announced that Agrarian Service Centers will remain operational on public holidays to facilitate the distribution of fertilizer to farmers in areas where Yala season paddy cultivation has commenced.
In a statement, the Commissioner General of Agrarian Development, Dhammika Ranatunga, noted that the department has taken measures to ensure that centers in the relevant areas remain open throughout all public holidays and weekends.
According to the announcement, the government has decided that fertilizers required for paddy cultivation will be issued exclusively through government Agrarian Service Centers.
This decision follows potential disruptions to the fertilizer supply chain caused by the ongoing conflict in the Middle East, as well as attempts by various parties to hoard fertilizer stocks.
The Commissioner General further stated that the issuance of fertilizer has already commenced in the regions where Yala season paddy cultivation is underway. Through these centers, a 50 kg bag of Urea fertilizer is being sold at a price ranging between Rs. 9,900 and Rs. 10,200.
