Close associate of fugitive underworld figure arrested with ammunition in Katunayake

A close associate of an organized criminal believed to be hiding overseas has been arrested in possession of 54 T-56 firearm bullets and a magazine, police said.

He was arrested in Hinetiyana, Minuwangoda. The operation was conducted by officers attached to the Kehelbaddara Special Task Force camp.

The suspect, a 25-year-old resident of Hinetiyana, Minuwangoda, was taken into custody at the scene and later handed over to the Katunayake Police Station for further investigations.

Police investigations have revealed that the ammunition and magazine are linked to a close associate of an organized criminal currently believed to be in hiding overseas.

Katunayake Police are conducting further inquiries into the incident.
