The Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption (CIABOC) has filed a revision application before the Colombo High Court, seeking an order to set aside the Colombo Magistrate’s Court decision to grant bail to three suspects, including Rakitha Rajapakshe and Charith Abeysinghe.
The suspects had been remanded in connection with an alleged incident involving the acceptance of a bribe from the wife of Nadun Chinthaka Wickramaratne, alias “Harak Kata”, who is alleged to be a notorious drug trafficker.
However, they were granted bail by the Colombo Chief Magistrate’s Court on July 28, 2026.
The petition is scheduled to be taken up for consideration before the Colombo High Court today (30), said Ada Derana reporter.
After pronouncing the bail order on July 28, 2026, Colombo Chief Magistrate Asanga S. Bodaragama ordered each suspect to be released on cash bail of Rs. 100,000 and two personal sureties of Rs. 1 million each.
The Magistrate further ordered that the personal sureties submit certificates to the court proving that they possess income or assets equivalent to the respective bail amounts.
The suspects were also prohibited from travelling overseas and ordered to surrender their passports to the court.
Additionally, the Magistrate directed CIABOC to submit a progress report on the investigation to the court on December 8.
The three suspects had been arrested and produced before the court by CIABOC in connection with an alleged incident involving the acceptance of a Rs. 120 million bribe from the wife of alleged drug trafficker Nadun Chinthaka Wickramaratne, alias “Harak Kata”, in exchange for removing him from Criminal Investigation Department (CID) custody under a detention order and transferring him to a secure prison.
