The Department of Meteorology has issued a Red Warning for strong winds and rough seas for multi-day fishing boats operating in the deep-sea areas of the Bay of Bengal.
The well-marked low-pressure area over the Southeast Bay of Bengal and adjoining sea areas around the Andaman and Nicobar Islands has intensified into a depression. As of 11.30 a.m. on 31 October 2026, the system was centred near latitude 10.0°N and longitude 90.2°E.
The system is very likely to move west-northwestwards and intensify into a deep depression over the Southeast Bay of Bengal by around 11.30 p.m. on 31 October 2026. Continuing its west-northwestward movement, it is very likely to intensify further into a cyclonic storm over the Southeast Bay of Bengal and adjoining areas of the Southwest and West-central Bay of Bengal by around 11.30 a.m. on 01 November 2026. Thereafter, it is expected to move towards the West-central Bay of Bengal, reaching the vicinity of the Andhra Pradesh coast by around 05.30 p.m. on 02 November 2026.
Wind speeds in the sea areas under the Warning category may increase up to 70 kmph at times. Heavy thundershowers are also likely, and sea conditions in these areas are expected to become very rough, it said.
Therefore, naval and fishing communities are strongly advised not to venture into the deep-sea areas bounded by 10°N–15°N and 80°E–90°E until further notice. Furthermore, naval and fishing communities currently operating in these sea areas are advised to return to shore or move to safer areas.
All naval and fishing communities engaged in activities in the affected sea areas are advised to remain vigilant and pay close attention to future forecasts and warnings issued by the Department of Meteorology.
