The Consumer Affairs Authority (CAA) has conducted a series of special island-wide raids and market inspections targeting the importation, production and sale of lubricants and grease used in motor vehicles.
The inspections were carried out in several parts of the country from October 27 to 30, with the aim of ensuring compliance with the legal requirements governing the importation, manufacture and sale of automotive lubricants and grease, the CAA noted.
According to the Authority, 98 suspected violations of regulations issued by the Consumer Affairs Authority in relation to lubricants and grease were identified during the operations.
The CAA said businesses engaged in the sale of engine oil, gear oil, various types of lubricants and grease were among those inspected.
A number of products suspected of being associated with regulatory violations were also taken into the custody of officials as evidence for legal proceedings.
The Consumer Affairs Authority emphasised the importance of verifying the legality of automotive lubricants and identifying their respective sources of supply.
The Authority further stated that the operations were aimed at preventing unauthorised imports and locally manufactured lubricants from entering the market, while ensuring that consumers have access to products obtained through reliable and legitimate supply channels.
