‘Ice’ worth around Rs. 100mn found inside parcel from Guatemala

Sri Lanka Customs have detected a large consignment of ‘Ice’, also known as Crystal Methamphetamine, valued at around Rs. 100 million, which had reportedly arrived in a parcel from Guatemala, through airmail service.

The cache of drugs were found concealed inside a car engine part (pulley) which was contained in the parcel sent to a bonded cargo warehouse attached to a courier service in Seeduwa.

The parcel had been addressed to a 25-year-old farmer residing in the Jayanthipura area of Polonnaruwa. The officers of the Narcotics Control Unit of Sri Lanka Customs had opened the parcel in front of the youth in question, upon his arrival to the warehouse to collect the parcel this afternoon (17).

The Sri Lanka Customs officials later apprehended the suspect, after detecting the drugs concealed inside the parcel.

The street value of the consignment of drugs, weighing 03 kilograms and 101 grams, is estimated to be around Rs. 100 million, according to Sri Lanka Customs.

The seized drugs, along with the apprehended suspect, have been handed over to the officers of the Police Narcotics Bureau (PNB) at Bandaranaike International Airport in Katunayake.
