A young couple has been arrested by police in the 28th Mile Post area of Polonnaruwa for allegedly transporting Crystal methamphetamine ('Ice') in a vehicle.
The suspects, aged 24 and 22, are residents of Katana and Kuliyapitiya, according to police.
The arrests were made during a raid conducted by officers of the Polonnaruwa Anti-Corruption Unit following a tip-off.
Accordingly, Police had recovered 27 grams of ‘Ice’ from the possession of the male suspect, while 6,310 milligrams of ‘Ice’ were found from the female suspect’s possession.
The luxury vehicle believed to have been used to transport the narcotics was also taken into police custody.
The suspects, along with the seized narcotics and the vehicle, are due to be produced before the Polonnaruwa Magistrate's Court.
