The body of a 27-year-old youth who had gone missing after reportedly falling from Mini World’s End viewpoint in the Knuckles Mountain Range has been recovered.
The deceased has been identified as a resident of Lunuketiya Maditta in Kandegammedda, Menikhinna, officials said.
The youth had been reported missing from his home since Friday (11), following which his family members lodged a complaint with the police and a search operation was launched.
During subsequent investigations, police obtained information through the youth’s mobile phone's tower data and launched a search operation, during which his body was discovered in the central section below Mini World’s End in the Knuckles mountain range.
As the body was trapped in a central area of the mountainside, recovering it proved to be a highly challenging task. The Ududumbara Police subsequently obtained the assistance of the Sri Lanka Army Commando Regiment to retrieve the body.
It has not yet been established whether the incident was an accident or a suicide, officials said.
Ududumbara Police are conducting further investigations into the incident.
