
Sri Lanka’s tourism revenue declined by 11.5% during the first seven months of this year compared with the same period last year, according to the Central Bank of Sri Lanka (CBSL).
According to a Central Bank report, Sri Lanka earned USD 1,796.7 million in tourism revenue from January to July this year, compared to USD 2,031.1 million recorded during the corresponding period last year.
Meanwhile, tourism revenue in July this year stood at USD 285.5 million, down from USD 318.5 million recorded in July last year.
However, workers’ remittances showed a significant increase during the first seven months of this year.
Sri Lanka received USD 8,382.4 million in foreign remittances during the period, compared to USD 4,435.2 million during the corresponding period last year.
Foreign remittances also increased in July, reaching USD 777.6 million compared to USD 697.3 million recorded in July last year.
