Joint Postal Trade Union goes on strike

Joint Postal Trade Union goes on strike

June 27, 2017   08:28 am

Sri Lanka Post will be going on an island wide strike starting at midnight, yesterday (26).

The Joint Postal Trade Union stated that the strike is being held in protests for the plan that was put forward to convert the postal offices in Nuwara Eliya, Kandy, and Galle into luxury hotels, and two other requests.

The Convener of the strike stated that the strike action has driven proceedings at postal offices to a halt.

However, the Postmaster General Rohana Abeyrathne stated that it is unreasonable to go on strike when the government has agreed to give the demands of the trade unions.
