JICA to commence second phase of Anuradhapura North Water Supply Project

The Japanese International Cooperation Agency (JICA) has agreed to commence the second phase of the Anuradhapura North Water Supply Project, says State Minister of Finance Shehan Semasinghe.

He said the second phase of the project will meet the drinking water needs of 50,000 families in Padaviya, Kebithigollewa, Horowpothana and Kahatagasdigiliya divisional secretariats covering 119 Grama Niladari Divisions.

Posting on ‘X’ (formerly Twitter), Semasinghe expressed that JICA has expressed its agreement to extend the time frame for providing financial facilities for the start of the second phase of the Anuradhapura North Water Supply Project. 

Furthermore, he said that instructions were given to the Water Supply and Drainage Board to obtain the necessary Cabinet approval to resume the work.

The JICA has communicated their agreement during a special discussion which took place between the Head of the JICA Mr. Yamada Tetsuya, Finance State Minister Shehan Semasinghe and other relevant officials at the Ministry of Finance.
