At least 10 parcels containing narcotics including ‘Kush’ cannabis, cocaine and ecstasy pills have been detected at the Central Mail Exchange, during the inspections carried out by officers of the Narcotics Control Unit of Sri Lanka Customs.

Sri Lankan Customs spokesman said the parcels in question had been sent from Canada, UK and Netherlands to addresses in Dehiwala, Wellawatta, Veyangoda and Anuradhapura.

However, extensive investigations have confirmed that the addresses mentioned in the parcels were fake.

After opening the parcels for inspection, customs officers had discovered approximately 150 ecstasy pills (methamphetamine), 466 grams of ‘Kush’ cannabis and 10 grams of cocaine inside them.

The street value of the seized drugs is estimated to be nearly Rs. 9 million.

The detection was made by the officers of the Narcotics Control Unit of Sri Lanka Customs with the assistance of the officials of Central Mail Exchange.

The seized drugs will be handed over to the Police Narcotics Bureau (PNB) for onward legal proceedings, Sri Lanka Customs said.
