The remains of renowned model Chulpadmendra Kumarapathirana have been taken to a private funeral parlour in Borella, as police continue investigations into her sudden and suspicious death.

Chulpadmendra Kumarapathirana, 45, was found dead on a bed at a house belonging to a businessman in Thumbowila, Piliyandala on August 31.

According to police, Chulpadmendra Kumarapathirana had been in a romantic relationship with the businessman. Investigations have revealed that she had travelled to his residence in Piliyandala in the early hours of August 31, following an event she had organised in Battaramulla on August 30.

She subsequently went to sleep in a room at the residence. At around 12.45 p.m. on August 31, attempts were made to wake her, but she did not respond. The 1990 Suwa Seriya ambulance service was then called, and medical personnel confirmed that she had died.

Police said a bloodstain was reportedly found on the bedsheet on which she had been sleeping. The businessman subsequently lodged a complaint with the Piliyandala Police, while Chulpadmendra Kumarapathirana’s mother also made a separate complaint.

Following proceedings before the Kesbewa Magistrate's Court, the Acting Magistrate inspected the scene and the deceased's body.

A post-mortem examination was later conducted at the Kalubowila Teaching Hospital by a Judicial Medical Officer on a court order.

The post-mortem examination resulted in an open verdict. Police stated that no external or internal injuries were found on Padmendra's body. Samples and portions of the remains have been sent to the Government Analyst for further examination as part of the ongoing investigation.

Police investigations are continuing under the direction of Piliyandala Police.

Chulpadmendra Kumarapathirana was also known to the Sri Lankan public for her involvement in the modelling and pageant industry, including her association with the 2021 controversy involving former Mrs. World Caroline Jurie and Mrs. Sri Lanka Pushpika de Silva.

Authorities have not yet established the exact cause or circumstances of Chulpadmendra Kumarapathirana’s death, and further forensic findings are expected to assist investigators in determining what happened.
