The water level of the Minneriya Reservoir, considered the second-largest reservoir in the Polonnaruwa District, has declined further to 36%.

Although the reservoir has a total capacity of approximately 110,000 acre-feet, its current water volume has decreased to around 40,000 acre-feet.

However, the release of water from the Minneriya Reservoir for paddy cultivation during the ‘Yala’ season is scheduled to conclude within the next two days.

The water level of the Parakrama Samudra, regarded as the largest reservoir in Polonnaruwa, has also declined significantly.

While its total capacity is approximately 116,000 acre-feet, the current water volume has decreased to around 63,000 acre-feet, representing 56% of its total capacity.

The release of water from the reservoir for the Yala season has reportedly already been terminated.

Meanwhile, the water level of the Giritale Reservoir, which has a total capacity of 21,600 acre-feet, is also rapidly declining and currently stands at less than 8,500 acre-feet.

Nevertheless, the release of water from the reservoir for the ‘Yala’ season has also been halted.
