An International Monetary Fund (IMF) staff team will visit Sri Lanka from September 10 to 23 to hold discussions with government authorities on the combined Seventh Review of the Extended Fund Facility (EFF) programme and the 2026 Article IV Consultation.

The mission will be led by Evan Papageorgiou, the IMF Mission Chief for Sri Lanka, and will assess the country’s progress under the IMF-supported economic reform programme while reviewing recent macroeconomic developments. The IMF team is expected to communicate its findings at the conclusion of the visit.

The upcoming review comes as Sri Lanka continues efforts to consolidate its economic recovery, strengthen public finances and rebuild external buffers following the country’s recent economic crisis. The IMF’s latest assessment noted improvements in economic growth, revenue mobilisation and foreign exchange reserves, while highlighting continued risks from external shocks and the need to maintain reform momentum.

The 2026 Article IV Consultation will provide a broader assessment of Sri Lanka’s economic policies and outlook alongside the programme-specific review under the EFF. The IMF’s country programme currently reflects an outstanding financial commitment of about SDR 1.76 billion as of March 31, 2026.

The September mission follows an IMF staff visit to Sri Lanka from June 24 to 30, during which officials reviewed economic developments and progress under the reform programme, including the impact of external shocks on the economy.

The outcome of the Seventh Review will be closely watched, as successful completion of IMF reviews is linked to continued access to financing under the EFF arrangement. The review will also provide an important assessment of Sri Lanka’s progress in implementing its economic reform commitments.
