The Federation of University Teachers’ Associations (FUTA) is scheduled to meet Prime Minister Dr. Harini Amarasuriya today (16) to discuss the issues faced by university academics.
FUTA Senior Lecturer Charudaththe Illangasinghe said the federation has decided to further intensify its trade union action until satisfactory solutions are provided to their demands.
Meanwhile, the Ceylon Teachers’ Union says there is a shortage of around 46,000 teachers in schools across the country.
The President of the Ceylon Teachers’ Union, Priyantha Fernando said the present government has yet to release the results of the competitive examination conducted for the recruitment of teachers.
He said the delay in releasing the examination results has further contributed to the shortage of teachers in schools.
