New US Ambassador meets Deputy Defence Minister, discuss growing defence partnership
New U.S. Ambassador to Sri Lanka Eric Meyer has met with Deputy Minister of Defence Major General (Retd.) Aruna Jayasekara for their first official meeting.
The meeting focused on the growing US-Sri Lanka defence partnership, including recent US support to Sri Lanka through the transfer of 10 TH-57 helicopters, a fourth US Coast Guard cutter and a USD 4 million advanced satellite communications system for Sri Lanka Navy offshore patrol vessels.
In a post on X, the US Embassy in Sri Lanka said the meeting also explored ways to build on these capabilities, enhance readiness, strengthen maritime security and advance shared interests in the Indian Ocean and across the Indo-Pacific.
