A tea estate worker has died while seven others sustained injuries in a wasp attack at the Lindula Waltrim Estate today (21).
According to reports, eight workers were carrying out their duties at the estate when they were suddenly attacked by wasps.
The attack is believed to have occurred after a wasp nest attached to a tree in the tea plantation was disturbed amid the prevailing adverse weather conditions in the area.
The deceased was identified as a 77-year-old father of three who resided in the Len Thomas section of the estate.
The seven injured workers were treated at the outpatient department of the Lindula Hospital and were later discharged.
The body of the deceased has been taken to the Nuwara Eliya District General Hospital for a post-mortem examination.
