Myown indicted on alleged bribery charges

A former Deputy Minister, Myown Mustapha has been indicted by the Colombo High Court in connection with the alleged offering of a bribe with a view to secure a win for retired General Sarath Fonseka during the Presidential Election.

 

 

The indictment was filed by the Attorney General this morning with the Colombo High Court and 21 witnesses have been named.

 

 

Mr. Mustapha has been accused of offering a bribe of Rupees 4.3 million as a bribe to former Jathika Nidahas Peramuna (JNP) Parliamentarian Mohammed Muzammil seeking his support in favour of retired General Sarath Fonseka during the run up to the January 26 Presidential poll.

 

 

The Attorney general has informed court that through this action Myown Mustapha had violated the Presidential Elections Act.

 

 

A list of telephone calls, an audio and a video recording have been submitted to courts as evidence regarding the indictment.
