Cairn India’s Ravva field bags FICCI safety excellence award

Cairn India, one of Asia’s fastest growing E&P Company and one of India’s leading upstream oil and gas company has been awarded the FICCI Safety Excellence award for Manufacturing 2012 for its Ravva oil and gas field in Andhra Pradesh.

 

Cairn India bagged the Platinum award (1st prize) under the ‘large size category’. At a ceremony in New Delhi on 14th September, the Union Minister of Labour and Employment, Shri Mallikarjun Kharge, presented the award to Elango P, CEO and Director Strategy and Business Services, Cairn India for exhibiting exemplary and high safety standards in its PKGM-1 block (Ravva field). 

 

The selection was based on safety management system, procedure and practice, amongst other parameters. The ‘Safety Awards’ were presented for achieving ‘exceptional safety performance’ during the year. 

 

As a part of the evaluation process, a thorough audit of compliance of Health and Safety Standards by a distinguished panel was undertaken at Cairn India’s Ravva oil and gas fields. The safety systems, procedures, practices and employee participation of the companies was evaluated by an eminent panel of jury which included Dr. R Chidambaram, Principal Scientific Advisor to Govt. of India; Mr. Sompal, Former Minister of Agriculture and Member, Planning Commission among  others.

 

The FICCI Safety Excellence Awards was initiated during 2011 to recognise organizations with robust safety systems and practices in the manufacturing sector.

Cairn India’s Health, Safety, and Environment (HSE) philosophy is based on commitment to protect its people, assets and the environment. Over the years, Cairn India has implemented numerous best practices in safety standards; Cairn Incident Management Systems, Asset Integrity Management,   heat stress management, road safety for staff and community.

 

In recent past, Cairn India has won safety awards from the Directorate General of Mines Safety in 2010 and 2011, for its Rajasthan oil and gas processing facilities. Recently, Ravva Asset was adjudged winner of “Oil Industry Safety Directorate (OISD)” Safety Awards for the Year 2010-11 under “Offshore Production Platforms” category.

 

Cairn India began its growth journey from the Ravva asset in the Krishna-Godavari basin, with 22.5% participating interest in partnership with ONGC, Videocon and Ravva Oil. The eight unmanned offshore platforms and the 225 acre Ravva onshore terminal at Surasaniyam operate with an internationally recognised environmental standard (ISO 14001). To date, the field has produced more than 249mmbbls of crude and 309 billion cubic feet of gas - more than double the initial estimates. Efforts are now underway to evaluate further potential in deeper prospects through 4D seismic interpretation.

 

For the past 17 years, Cairn India has successfully demonstrated its ability to explore, discover and fast track hydrocarbon reserves to production. Today, the company operates over 200,000 boepd of hydrocarbons across its various assets, contributing over 20% to India’s current domestic crude oil production.
